Reading

Reading tutor centers are often owned by franchises and because of the the prices will vary and the times that they are open will vary greatly depending on the area. Also with a reading tutor center your child will be tested and lessons will be based on areas of low scores and try to help build skills. This is basically like the traditional school strategy which in many cases falls short of helping children reach their potential. As many as 70% to 80% of children need additional resources to aid them in learning reading skills they will need for the rest of their life.

Time4Learning's online curriculum is designed for a multitude of areas. It can be a homeschool core curriculum, a supplement to home school or traditional school, a summer school replacement, or for daily remediation and enrichment. The program keeps your child's interest, makes learning fun and supplies high quality educational material. Time4Learning can become your child's reading tutor.

Time4Learning has an awesome 1st grade reading program with a curriculum that uses many learning tools - 1st grade reading worksheets, reading activities, reading games, reinforcement exercises, and assessments. These 1st grade reading lesson plans, reading worksheets, and reading activities teach reading skills covering all the language arts strands.

Those strands are:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Vocabulary
  • Reading Fluency.

Kidslearnfaster.com has an article entitled "What Works for Teaching Reading. The Minority View - The Mandate". They state that it seems that the goal of Congress by charging and mandating a study with the National Reading Panel was to finally put an end to the age old question of "which of the many teaching methods (reading strategies ) used in schools, and promoted by advocates, really work best". In order to try to answer this question the National Reading Panel researched areas of language development, pre-reading literary knowledge, understanding of the conventions of print, and all the other experiences that prepare young children to learn to read. Unfortunately because this panel was made up of a small group of unpaid workers this article also states that the writer felt the panel did not adequately answer the question. The writer further supplies a list compiled of several issues that were not addressed to the public by the panel while trying to answer this question.

So as a parent, what works for your child? What reading strategy have you and your child developed? No matter what level of development your child is at, your reading strategy should include plenty of writing practice using language arts lessons and language arts worksheets
